The spiral staircase gracefully connects all three floors with its marble stair treads and “pewter” finished iron railings. The staircase is extra wide, gently sloped and gracefully curved. Each step is made out of a marble slab and then delicately trimmed with egg & dart detail. One of the most magnificent elements of the house, this staircase is illuminated by recessed lighting above and by a large Griffin chandelier hanging from the 9 foot diameter dome above. The dome is ringed with intricate plaster detail and indirectly illuminated to high-light the purple and silver Italian fresco finish. An electric hoist lowers the chandelier to the floor level for installation, cleaning or repair.
The third floor catwalk, also with its marble/limestone floors and ornate “pewter” finished custom built railings, connects the left side of the house (
studio,
bedroom 6,
bath,
elevator and
master suite) to the right side of the house (
bedroom 4 and staircase). At the top of the stairs you can see the front entrance and
dinning areas as well as the front exterior court yard through the homes front windows. From the catwalk and as you descend down the stairs you first see the expansive
living room window wall overlooking the beautiful city of Austin. The capital, University Tower and all the landmark buildings are captured like a painting. As you look over the
living room you notice the massive yet delicately implemented 20-foot high hand carved white marble fireplace.
